Dem Neyem Sher (The New Sher) was written by Abe Ellstein, was recorded on June 20, 1940 by the Bagelman Sisters, who later became the infamous Barry Sisters. It’s rumored to have been composed in an automobile, between gigs, for a session with Seymour Rechtzeit.
Dem Neyem Sher has been performed by many, but this is the Barry Sisters 1959 recording. It’s a delightful parade of heel-kickin’ woodwinds and perky tempo capture an incredibly festive feeling the delivers celebration everytime. I imagine the Barry Sisters created quite a stir with this one up in the Catskills.
