Gikhe trit– acrylic and latex on canvas, 49″ x 39″ 2024
Gikhe trit (Fast Steps) was written in 2022 by vocalist, composer, lyricist, and pianist Maria Ka, and recorded during mass women’s protest in Poland as “an anthem dedicated to progression, motion, future and leaving behind fossilized structures.” It’s politically and socially charged lyrics are soft, thick, rolling bubbles moving at the core, like a lava lamp, deep in heavily haunting instrumentation.
This inspired me to create a representation of the many ways we combine, continue, shift, separate until a foundation to build upon our identity not only as individuals, but as human beings. It asks the question: How does my own identity shape humanity? It suggests a fluidity in perpetual risk of stagnation, and examines the entropy required to repel vs. adapt in a world of motion.
