Passover Broth

Passover Broth, acrylic and latex on canvas, 32″ x 54″, 2024

Ikh hob dikh lib Vi a peysakhdikn rosl(“I love you like a Passover broth”) is a Yiddish folk song written in the form of a letter, with it’s composer and lyricist unknown. However, Yosl Mlotek heard the song at a Warsaw summer camp in the 1930’s- from Isaac Giterman, the director of the Joint Distribution Committee in Poland. While I’ve never been able to hear a version of this song , it’s written lyrics offered the particular light-hardheartedness I was looking for. The couple was inspired by a still from the 2020 movie “Unorthodox“.
